Some Typical Assignments

technology and the research and development
capabilities of the target company.
- A client asked for help in deciding whether a business could be created by providing software and services for the manipulation of integrated genetic engineering databases. These databases contained
information on gene sequences, gene maps, protein structures and functions, and other data of interest to the Human Genome Project, as well as other projects involving human, animal, plant, and microbial
biology. Opportunities and problems were identified through interviews with a number of key potential customers, and a course of action was recommended.
- At the request of a venture capital company, an analysis was made of a new company based on patented drug delivery technology. A careful study raised questions concerning the ability of the patents to
withstand litigation. Since licensing of the technology to pharmaceutical companies was the chosen commercial path, the recommendation to the client was against further investment in the company.
- A European pharmaceutical company was considering acquiring a substantial interest in a small biotechnology company. Candida served as an advisor to the European company and provided an evaluation of the
technology and research capabilities of the target company.
- The commercial potential for a new non-caloric sweetener was analyzed, including aspects of production, toxicology and nutrition, and food technology. Following the analysis, it was recommended that an
